Cardio Dance Club is a cardio fitness class that incorporates world beats with easy to follow urban-style dance choreography. Regular classes have been offered in Nanaimo beginning this year at Casa Loca Fitness Studio and The Bradley Centre in Coombs from local instructor Jen deHaan, who started teaching Cardio Dance Club (among other classes) in California.
Nanaimo, B.C. – October 23, 2017
Instructor Jen deHaan returned to Vancouver Island, where she grew up, after living in California for over a decade. She discovered dance fitness as a student in the San Francisco Bay Area, falling in love with dancing as a way to improve cardiovascular fitness and mental health. After certifying in and teaching several formats, Jen decided to offer her own style of class called Cardio Dance Club that include songs from the radio, and throwback favorites. Her classes offer carefully choreographed cardio interval training and toning in an incredibly fun and engaging atmosphere that focuses on community. Multiple levels and modifications are offered, so any experience level or cardio capabilities can successfully complete these all-levels classes. “I started dance fitness with two left feet! If I can dance to these songs, anyone can,” says deHaan.
Cardio Dance Club started as a class in California to fill a need for incredibly simple to follow choreography that could be easily adjusted to the needs of the students attending the class. Students in the early classes asked for deHaan to “use the microphone” to verbally tell them what move was coming next, and that became a regular feature of these classes. deHaan decided to continue teaching this style of class after returning to Canada, which is how Cardio Dance Club started in the area. Jen loves how teaching her own format allows her to customize the style and intensity of the class to fit the specific needs of the room. It is now being offered in Nanaimo and the Oceanside area, with more classes to come.
After participating in the intense energy of large and rousing fitness classes with the founding members of the formats she taught and took classes in, deHaan hopes to bring that same positive energy and dynamic style to Nanaimo. Weekly classes are offered at Casa Loca Fitness Studio located at 6330 Dover Rd., where students can drop in to try a class. Students can also register for classes in Coombs through Arrowsmith Community Recreation Association, or through phone or email at this page.
